It was the day after Halloween. When I got on the train he was working on his makeup. He looks guarded and suspicious, but he thinks I’m just playing with my iPhone like everyone else.
Close readers of my blog will know that I did subway photos for years in the film days using a Leica rangefinder. The iPhone is no substitute, but in many ways it’s a modern day version of the camera that goes everywhere.

Too beautiful not to post.
The museum of aerosol art called 5 Pointz in Long Island City, Queens is officially doomed to be demolished in the name of redevelopment. Luxury apartment towers will go up in its place. With this in mind I revisited my photos of the place and tried out my new software, Nik Software Analog Efex Pro, to make the toy camera effect in the picture above. I might as well have some fun while there’s still something to photograph in Long Island City.
The museum has two current exhibitions that should not be missed: Photographs of Hurricane Sandy’s assault on New York and its aftermath, curated from submissions by 900 photographers; and a series of superb and highly original paintings of Central Park by Janet Ruttenberg.
