It’s Photoville – an outdoor photography exhibit in shipping containers along the Brooklyn waterfront, in Brooklyn Bridge Park. There are Magnum photographers and student photographers and Latin American photographers and art photographers and documentary photographers. One exceptionally moving exhibit was shot by a 28-year-old photographer with breast cancer who documented her own surgery and chemotherapy. In another provocative and moving exhibit, prisoners in solitary confinement were asked what photograph of the outside world they would like to have made for them, and volunteer professional photographers shot and donated their pictures to the prisoners. I saw exceptionally good work by Dutch photographers and exchanged cards with two of them.
