I don’t know who she is, but I like her. I found her photograph on a glass lantern slide that belonged to my grandfather. There is a picture of similar age (about 1900) showing my grandfather as a young man of around 15, holding his violin. Since there are pictures of his sisters bearing no real resemblance to this woman, I would guess that she was his cousin, but this is pure speculation. I like her serious and scholarly face and the books in her hand, giving the impression that she has just gotten up from her reading for a moment to pose for a picture.
